R. Vincent Pohl

Senior Researcher

Vincent Pohl is an economist with expertise in program evaluation and causal inference. His research focuses on the opioid epidemic, long-term care, primary care, Medicaid, and the employment effects of disability and disease.

Pohl has recently supported the impact evaluation for one site for Mathematica’s Evaluation of the Health Care Innovation Awards Round 2. He is working on evaluating the impact of Primary Care First—a new payment model for primary care practices—on expenditures and health outcomes of high-risk Medicare populations. He also provides evaluation technical assistance to states conducting impact evaluations of Medicaid Section 1115 demonstrations.

Before joining Mathematica, Pohl held faculty positions at the Queen’s University School of Policy Studies and the University of Georgia department of economics. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the International Economic Review and the Journal of Health Economics. Pohl holds a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University.
